I'm thinking about organising a Go-Kart race day for SHMCC club members. it would cost around £40 per person from what I can remember. Who would be interested in coming along, I haven't thought much about venue or anything yet, I wanted to know who would be interested before I checked anything out.

ME tooooo!....are you thinking about the indoor track in the Eastliegh area?...nice track! went to that one a few years ago, karts were a bit hit and miss power wise but not bad, theres the wessex raceway north of salisbury and of course if everyone wanting to go was a little flush there is the really good karts at thruxton! anyway im in

yeh i went to eastleigh a few weeks back for a sports and social event for work..
it was £45 per head and it was a GP4,
you had a little practice - 3mins or so. then 4x 4lap heats 1x5lap semi 1x6lap final for top 8 drivers.
go karting is VERY expensive. but great fun
but as adam says the karts are VERY hit and miss. I qualified 1st for semi finals, but i got a poop car in the semi and people were passing me down the straight !!!!... came 5th and didnt qualify for final.

I was thinking more of an indoor venue. I raced a few months ago in Gosport they've got a great indoor track. Much better than eastleigh. 2 levels with a flat out right hander on the bridge that puts a smile on your face every lap.

The one at Salisbury is indoor. Craig did some karting there before taking up TCs; my non professional opinion would be that it seemed OK

Classic ridiculous thread...
How about choosing a kart track that is kinda close to SHMCC, given that it's is probably the geographical centre of the members?

Closer to home is Matchams, now have some proper karts Endurance racing min 3 people @ £40 tinyurl.com/6cvrs3and Indoor Karting centre at Hurn Airport but not sure if it is still there the website www.indoorkartingcentre.co.uk/ is under construction. Also has anyone tried the Racing simulators at the Racing Centre Chandlers Ford Hants www.driverschallenge.co.uk from £20 each 7 days a week. Looks great fun

HI Keith...we are both up for it...I love it and Simon wants to try it...you might need to check the age limits depending on carts! some tracks have restrictions.

I've added a poll so everyone can decide where we go. Gosport is 39.5 miles and a 1hr drive, Eastleigh is 25.3 miles and 45min drive and Andover is 49miles and 1hr from Bashley I thought we'd be better of on an indoor track incase the inevitable rain falls. I have raced both Eastleigh and Gosport, Gosport is alot better but further away, it's probably worth the extra 15mins each way though Here's the links to the different tracks Gosport: www.team-sport.co.uk/karting_tracks/karting_in_gosport.htmlEastleigh: www.team-sport.co.uk/karting_tracks/karting_in_southampton.htmlAndover: www.team-sport.co.uk/karting_tracks/karting_in_andover.htmlThe price will be £39.95 per person, and it can be a grand prix or team style event, grand prix consists of 4 heats of 4 laps, then a 5 lap semi final, followed by a grand final of 6 laps for top 6 drivers, team event is where we'll be split into groups of 2 or 3 and compete in a non-stop race of mayhem and driver swapping. Unfortunatley the only indoor tracks I could find are those listed, if anyone knows of any others please let me know.
