Oh and Matt, EMF stands for electro magnetic force.

Keith I meant variable between different manufacturers motors. If that was the case then I could envisage (being a non electronic magnectic motivator force expert) that the ESC might struggle. But if the variability was solely rev based then I assume that would be intrinsic element of the software

I've read that Nosram/LRP/Orion and others struggle to run sensorless. But GM/Peak run rather nicely. And all of that is more at the mod end of the spectrum I believe.
It's exciting to see that there's development already in the brushless arena, the next couple of years will see a whole host of changes I think.
We might be wise not to get too hung up on what winds we're racing now, as it'll all probably change anyway!

But if the variability was solely rev based then I assume that would be intrinsic element of the software Ah I see, between motors yes the difference could be quite alot, depending on rotor magnet strength, windings etc. but I wouldn't have thought that would be an issue, the ESC would probably only need to see a voltage on the non powered coil to know the rotor position. To stop the cogging issue the ESC would also need to know current draw on the powered coils as this would change as the rotor magnet moved towards it, giving the ESC an even better idea of a precise position. Although these are variable between different makes of motor they are always relative, so the ESC should be able to work it all out, the clever little things

Right back to wet racing, just seen a little pic of a car that someone is selling on a famous auction site.... not interested in the car BUT, look at what the speedo sits in i1.ebayimg.com/01/i/001/1c/f6/a4ab_12.JPGGENIUS of an idea. of course its about finding the right size tub/pot

Just out of interest I have had replies from Speed Passion who say their motors will work with sensorless speed controls and from MRT who are apparently working on a brushless speedo. (In actual fact MRT say they hope to have one sometime, read into that what you will)
Still waiting for a response from Mtroniks on testing their speedos with the 17.5 but will chase them today.
