The race organisers have listened to a number of idea's and suggestions made throughout this series and we would like to get your vote to a number of idea's we will be looking at for 2010. Please spend a couple of minutes answering the questions on the web site. This will help get the view of all racers and your vote will count towards making 2010 an even better series !!
Please remember to vote on all issues before pressing the vote button as you only get one chance to vote. You will also need to log onto the web site to vote.

The regulations Q was hard. As I think the regulations are ok as it is... more would make it more serious. less would make it to relaxed...
for sake of it I picked less

I did the same with the Reg question. I think you should have an option to say if you want the rules to stay as they are.

I did the same with the Reg question. I think you should have an option to say if you want the rules to stay as they are. I feel the same as Reubs and Trev..."if it aint broke dont fix it!!" It would be nice to get the weight down though...1425 for me!! Mendips a nice track,it huge and technical. Who voted for Yeatley ....I bet Trev didnt ;D

I agree with all of the above... regarding weight, whatever the STCC/BRCA do, I chose more, rules, not because I want more, I don't want less.. No to Yateley, they're a great bunch of guys, but I think the advantages of their facilities do not outweigh the disadvantages of their layout, I've missed not going to West London, Whilst we're all Asphalt racers in general, perhaps a carpet round? it may bring in even more competitors, Also timed practice slots, for Juniors on the Saturday, to help with younger, or more inexperienced drivers to gain track time without the worry of faster, cars and mouths, on the track.. also clarity on the ruling for jump starts, when Trev called for IanF to pull of the track and take a penalty for his jump start there was no clear area for such a penalty to take place, ( i know it's hard to have rules for every eventuality, it happened twice in one round, but i don't recall it happening ever before.. I hope that helps, Keep up the great work Ian, Matt

Some of the points to vote on sem a bit ambiguous to be honest.
Voting for more rules must depend on what those rules are. A blanket vote on just adding more rules is fairly pointless unless you know what those rules are.
Same with the tyre rule. Going with a cheaper tyre is OK unless that cheaper tyre does not work and then everyone will complain.
Weight makes little difference to me personally as long as everyone is the same.
Tracks are a personal preference I can understand that.
Obviously the organisers should take note of any comments and suggestions from racers during the series and these should be discussed.
My own opinion is if it aint broke, don't fix it. However there will always be "improvements" that can be made.
Just make sure it is FUN for all as that is a big part of what makes this series special.
Good luck to all those involved. I am sure it will be a great series again whatever.

Well said Ian, With regards to tyre rules whatever is selected they must in my opinion work OK but most importantly last well (Myself and the Kids are still running our Sorex 32's from the first race at Aldershot). With regards to the weight rules just make sure it fall's in line with the BRCA the last thing needed is for weight changes to be required to race in other series. All in all it's been a great fun series so please don't mess with it too much. Thanks

Mendip by any chance Paul?? Yes I ran the BRCA last year and intend to vote at the agm this year to try and influence the way it runs. The fixed 2 day format does not suit me. In order to vote you need to have scored at least one point which with a fair wind I am hoping to achieve SLCC rocks but to run Mod you need BRCA and I am thinking of saving a few quid (i.e. not buying a £200+ stock spec ESC) and going mod next year. I will have attended 5 out of the 6 SLCCs and thoroughly enjoyed it, indeed I have everything crossed that we get last weeks weather this week at Bashley. Cheers Paul

guys During this years series i have been asked these ( and more ) questions, but due to being busy during the weekend i cannot remember everything that is said to me. So i made the poll using the type of points given to me to gauge reactions to those points. Please remember that this is to help me set next years rules and is not set in stone but in saying that this should help me avoid a mistake in the second year. The results and indeed other points will be discussed by those who helped me this year before anything is published/decided.

There was lot of "pit gossip" yesterday about some racers Nhim charging Lipos to gain an unfair voltage advantage..this can be a very dangerous practice.
For next year I would like to see more random spot checks, yes I know this will put more of a strain on scrutineering but even the threat of this happening at random may stop this.
A simple loss of FTD plus no run on that heat for any offender should be enough to put "some" off starting with a "hot pack"

There was also some "pit gossip" about people deliberately running way underweight for their first run knowing they would only get a warning. If anyone was to set a really fast time by doing this it would seem unfair practice. I did not see any of this myself but maybe keep an eye on it for the future. I was told someone was running more than 40 gms underweight. Not sure how true that is but everyone has the chance to pre-weigh their cars so if this was happening there is no excuse.

I think looking at who ran and didn't run in finals, it may have been the same person who had over volted their lipo.. - based on pit gossip, obviously Ian and keith will be the only ones to know and may chose not to confirm all of this stuff. I wonder have any series in the past ever had scruitineering before round one? for example, weighing and checking the body height of cars before the cars are allowed to run in the meeting, and then after every round..as per normal? I'm correct in thinking over volting a lipo at a meeting can result in a ban if they are reported by the organisers to the BRCA, I think yesturday "people" wanted a specific figure to work to, when I was voltage checked my pack read 8.45, now i'm pretty sure the rules state 8.44 - that .01 of a Volt would make no difference in my race i'm sure, but would have put me outside of the rules.. Certainly interesting to watch the persistent offenders of putting the cars down at the thermometer, and also doing practice starts up and down the straight... Perhaps I was right to choose more rules afterall!! I suppose the advantage to having more clearly defined rules, is it saves all of the arguing and "interpretation" Referees would also be nice for the finals, i got a shoddy deal on my first final by a certain driver who's doing two classes, who didn't have the nuts to stop and wait for me to be put back on, (Sorry again to Phil for that "overtaking" move in the second one, my thumbs still are getting used to being in A final!)

I think this is no different to any other competitive sport. Someone will always try to "push" the rules.
In my own opinion there are no excuses for running underweight. Everyone knows the rules and there is always access to the scales that will be used for scrutineering. It is the responsibility of ALL racers to make sure they are legal.
I can understand to some extent a small amount of lee way being given. A few grams here or there make little difference. A large amount of weight difference should be penalised from the outset and the rules made clear on this.
We also should all know the rules on Lipo voltage.
It so however, sometimes difficult to determine the people who may deliberately be underweight or overcharge their Lipo's from the people who genuinely make a mistake.
I am in no way saying that anyone was deliberate in doing any of this. I just think it should be carefully watched.

I wonder have any series in the past ever had scruitineering before round one? for example, weighing and checking the body height of cars before the cars are allowed to run in the meeting, and then after every round..as per normal? I went to Maritime for carpet wars and there was no warning you lost your time if you where under weight or your ride height was below 5mm, straight away, no excuses - I must say I thought it was harsh, but you did double check I'm correct in thinking over volting a lipo at a meeting can result in a ban if they are reported by the organisers to the BRCA, From the brca.org/BRCA/elecboard/regs/BRCA%20Electric%20board%20rules%202009.pdf1) Use the wrong charge profile i.e. NiHh disqualified from event 2) Batteries above 8.40v disqualified from the event. Certainly interesting to watch the persistent offenders of putting the cars down at the thermometer, and also doing practice starts up and down the straight... Was not clear, most tracks allow a short run in/scrub. All major events ban hot laps 100% I suppose the advantage to having more clearly defined rules, is it saves all of the arguing and "interpretation" Yep, but they will still argue Referees would also be nice for the finals, i got a shoddy deal on my first final by a certain driver who's doing two classes, who didn't have the nuts to stop and wait for me to be put back on, (Sorry again to Phil for that "overtaking" move in the second one, my thumbs still are getting used to being in A final!) The only time from Maritime, to Chippenham and SLCC to BTCC events the only event that makes this work is BRCA and even then with their dedicated team of three/four referees (one on the rostrum and two/three trackside) they miss stuff certainly mid field stuff, its a fast paced pastime and it takes all the effort to see whats happening up front.

If you would like me to scrutineer again next year I would be happy to do pre race checks. Although most people were really welcoming and polite yesterday, the biggest gripe we had all day was about the accuracy of the scales. If everyone has to weigh in on the official scales, does it matter if they are not the same as your personal ones?

Who is to say whether the scales used at SLCC are more accurate than those used by racers at home. To my mind it makes little difference. The scales used at any race meeting are the ones you go by on the day.
My scales at home showed my car at 1515 on Friday night and yet on race day the scales showed it at 1499. So what. I added weights to make sure I was legal. Simple really and as it is the same for everyone then there should be no gripe.
Surely it is up to individual racers to get their cars checked on the day and work from there?
Good job scrutineering by the way!
Can you also be in charge of letting (certain) racers know when they should be racing......

As an example Ian. Before the meeting started I weighed our car on the scrutineer scales. 5gm under so added 10 gms. Everyone can do that.
After 3rd qualie was logged as 5gm under. After qualie 2, due to interference throughout the race, I swapped out the 40mhz technology and changed to 2.4ghz. What I didn't realise and didn't consider was that the 2.4 receiver was clearly 10gm lighter. My responsibility but an honest mistake.
But I don't see how being 30-40 gms under can be an honest mistake!!!
I think if you go onto the BRCA or the STCC web sites you will find some appropriate notes on the LIPO subject. Mike who runs the STCC is the BRCA head on the electronic side I am sure.
At STCC Eastbourne random checks on the grid were taken. Craig was pulled up, being substantially under voltage ;D

Something worth remembering is body shell weight,a Speed 6 roughly weighs between 95 to 115 grams depending upon paint.dont do what I did and change shellls,my second run was 3grms under even after making sure the car was 1510 with another shell.

personaly i think the reason the slccup is so popular is that its a fun but competative series , however i feel that before long if things dont get tightened up it will just spiral out of control and the fun factor will dissapear ! ie , if a car is weighed after the 1st race and its under by 10 grammes then thats a loss of time , sounds harsh but this will be the last time its under ! i would also like to suggest that b4 a race that all volts are taken prior to being put down at track side in order , this way if its over then your not racing ! again harsh but it wont be over again .

Just on the Lipo side of things I had mine checked on Sunday which is fine, I was quite shocked to find out that the voltage was 8.48. In the BRCA this would have meant that I couldn't race but luckily the SLCC is a bit more relaxed.
What I couldn't work out is how I could reduce it without buying a new charger. I was running 2 year old Lipo's and a £35 charger (both from Demon) and was just charging according to the manual at 5amps.
Fair enough rules are rules, but if the cells are constantly at that higher voltage how could I reduce them to make sure I can race, without spending out money on an expensive charger?

Interesting point Simon. I also use a Demon charger and I am pretty sure you are unable to adjust the maximum voltage on a charge so like you I am liable to be over the limit.
Not sure what the answer is to this. Not deliberately cheating just charging as per the chargers instructions.

If you enter a BRCA event you would need to have a voltmeter to hand and discharge the pack before proceeding to the track. You could always ping Demon and explain your issue be interesting what Nick says he is a racer at heart and would I am sure take your question seriously.
