Hi guys dave told me to post up to gain level of interest. There is a group of us from a club called hampshire drift rc who all live close and are finding it hard as only place for us to drift is fareham. What we are preposing is adding a extra class/section to the club for drift. We would like to then run regular sessions on carpet and outdoors. We would all join up as members etc but feel this may help bring in extra funds for club and members.

Sounds good to me. Might have to have a go myself as it seems TC racing is dying.

Theres deffo 2 of us who will join and happy to help out with setup advice etc. Were also the owners of ghzhobbies so could run track shops if intrest is big enough. Drifting is really taking off now and a simple tyre and diff change in your touring cars will see you through. Ive just sold mine to upgrade to a yokomo dib v2

We would need to change our insurance as I have not included drifting as part of what we race, before any practice or racing could go ahead and I would also need to see brca membership for each racer before I approach the brca to amend insurance.

We would need to check insurance cover before any practice or racing could take place, as i have just recieved paperwork on events that werenot covered and the fines costs etc that had to be paid. We dont want to run any risk as a club and therefore would need to make sure insurance cover is in place for ANY track practice or racing.

BRCA does not have insurance for drifting it will fall under what the club is already insured for.
2. The cover includes the use of all classes of radio controlled cars & motorbikes anywhere in the UK and whilst temporarily abroad in Europe. (the host club should provide cover).
however all drifters must be BRCA 2014 Registered

This is not so as when putting in details for our brca insurance we have to make them aware of what classes we race at our club, so therefore should be very careful in what you say about what the club SHOULD cover, as I have already said any kind of incident could cost the club or chairman thousands if something was to go wrong that's not fully covered. Happy to go through any documentation with any club member.

Interesting if Adam is right and drifters need to be BRCA members but not covered by their insurance! Neil lets have a look through the documentation this weekend and get a definitive answer, mean while please continue to post if you are interested in drafting :-)

Contact the lads at Soul RC they run a drift track used for competition use as well, they will know for sure and are a very helpful bunch.
but as BRCA does not have a section soley for drifting it would only make sense that it will fall under 1:10 circuit

Be interesting to see if it all goes ahead as i would be in full support of this, as Drifting has become pretty much my life now due to a few friends who compete in the British drift championship and currently waiting on a delivery of a RC drifter myself to keep me occupied when not swinging a hammer at other peoples cars lol.

Just out of interest I have made contact with the BRCA and asked the question whether our club insurance cover applies to DRIFT as well as TOURING CARS. I explained we have been asked to add DRIFT as a class and there was some confusion as to whether we needed to notify the BRCA or make any changes. The reply from them was fairly simple.
"Thats fine, all R/C cars are covered within the size and weight limit rule in the general rules, drift cars will be well within this"
Now pardon me for poking my nose in but I was quite interested to know. I am sure that the club would need their own confirmation from the BRCA that this is OK but it would certainly seem that there is not a problem.
I can supply a copy of the E Mail if anyone wants it.

Once Sean sees that there will be drifting at SHMCC, he's going to want another car! More expense Could always turn one of your spare touring chassis into a drift car! nice and easy. I hope this lifts off the ground actually as I have come back from the Royal brompton today and well...futures looking a bit grim so on top of fiddling with the real cars ..im going to want to fill the rest of the time doing something else and this would fit the bill great. If this proves to be popular ill be more than happy to help out with the ground rules when it comes to qualification and battle rounds, setting out tracks suitable within the already laid out tracks, clipping points etc etc etc

Yer theres a couple of us happy to do the ground work but comps atc will be a while off as people will need to get the hsng of drift first. As for cars yes any car can be made to drift, just lock the rear diff and fit drift tyres the rest is just basics you could use just your tourer to save money. Just buy a spool

I'd love to have a go at drifting. It does mean more expense for me at the moment though, unless I can get an old Tamiya TT-01 sorted out.

I've just filled up two TT-01 diffs with hot glue to lock them up. Our summer project is to get two drift cars up and running, so the first step is now done. Just need to find the screws to put the car back together now.
