OK folks Mr Lloyd has had a fantastic idea for a bit of fun at Bashley next year..
link
Yes! how about a Stadium Super Truck series for Bashley using short truck 2wd cars??
Helion Volition
For around £120 or less RTR Short course trucks are available, strangely kit only options are expensive and much more top end stuff so to keep it cheap and fun I'm suggesting we keep it based on RTR for the moment with possible upgrades to 17.5 or maybe 13.5 blinky??
We could knock up some ramps etc and bring back a little of that Bashley spark!!
Have a look at the links and let me know what you all think?

Sounds great. Can it be 4wd as well? I only ask as we've got 4wd trucks (Maverick ones), they are poo, but we do already have them.

Looks like it could be fun. It would at least give people a fairly cheap variation so we are not limited just to TC or mini outside. Having ramps etc would add some extra skill factor as landing cleanly at speed takes some doing sometimes.

Happy to consider 4wd Tony Only suggested 2wd as that's what the "real" tracks are..

We could always remove the centre drive shaft.

The MAVERICK is a cheap truck as well as being 4WD. I can see no problem with it in fact might be better. Think I might have to look at those as well.
Could be a fun alternative to TC which as we all agree is getting pretty expensive these days.

I wouldn't recommend the Maverick. It needs new shocks and alloy at the front to make it usable (the front king pins/screws are a joke, one knock or landing and they come out, the shocks are awful, too springy so the car bottoms out on even small jumps).
Ours handle OK now, I replaced the front hubs/c hub holder things. And replaced the shocks with some big bore ones I got from ebay for a quid (excluding postage).
Alloy upgrades are really dirt cheap though (you get the HSP part number, then search for it at an Australian ebay seller "topfomax"). Alloy hub carriers were £3 for a pair

Looked at a few reviews of the Helion and it seems tp be OK out of the box, but I can see everyone wanting to go with brushless once the brushed motor supplied dies..
Think i'll wait to see of there are enough funds after xmas to purchase :-)

Was looking at the ECX TORMENT. Looks pretty much like all the other short course trucks and is reasonable in price. Anyone know anything about them?

As for the SC10 Matt I would not see a problem running that certainly initially anyway. Would be fun to have a full grid of these just to see what happens.

Came very close to ordering the 2wd Turnigy SCT today but its on backorder and delivery from the international warehouse was over £30 which made it less of a bargain :-( Going to wait and see if its in stock at the UK warehouse in the near future...

Decent test of the Helion Volition in this months Race mag. Looks pretty cool and is an RTR for less that £120. Try finding a touring car at that price.
I am becoming sorely tempted by this class. It will not be who has the fastest, it looks tremendous fun and is not too expensive to give it a go. The Helion is also waterproof so those damp meetings that everyone hates could also be covered by truck racing!
Go on lets give it a go. How hard can it be.........
You never know we might just start a trend!

Is that Radio Control Racer magazine Ian?
We've got the December and Jan issues here (I got "Sean" a subscription for Christmas), but no reviews of the Helion.

Looked a lot at the Volition and was a bit worried it would not take a standard 7.4v Lipo. While the pack looks like it would fit the car is geared for the 8.4v hump pack so not sure how it would perform. I know the ECX would be slower but changing it to 17.5 brushless should be easy.
Hmmm have to think a bit more on this. Not actually placed my order yet so might look around for a second hand one to start with.

Looks fast enough with a 2 cell li-po!
Only thing I can see that might be a small issue is the battery strap might cover the terminal holes on a "standard" TC pack..
