OK so we all know the benefits of brushless motors that need little or no maintenance, gear diffs that we never have to rebuild or at least only once every so many years and Lipo batteries that give so much more performance and operating time and yet while technology has moved on tremendously over the last few years our racing formats have not even tried to keep up with this. It strikes me there is good reason to be looking at what we do or how we do it in relation to these technological improvements and make the most of them. Starting with longer races? Since racing began we have been running 5 minute races and yes I was there when this was almost impossible. When battery technology was such that to get a full 5 minutes flat out racing was indeed a challenge. We now have batteries that will last much longer so why not take advantage of that. I suggest a consideration is giving to increasing the legth of races to at least 6 minutes for qualifying and maybe 8 minutes for finals. We have the kit to be able to do this, the extra time overall on a race evening is minimal and the enjoyment factor could be huge.
There does not seem to me to be a reason that we should not do something like this, what do you think?

I think we could try 6 minute finals but based on past experience 8 minutes is to much a bore for the marshals. DEREK
