I know we are meant to say nice things about XRAY, but this is just, well err wonderful.
When is an 009 not an 009, when you find some of those lovely orange parts on the picture on the box aren't. Wow I thought, a performance upgrade and I got all excited, then I thought, hmn maybe they just ran out of paint?
Investigation illicited
"We have been notified that there has been some running changes made to these kits in line with the X-Ray policy of continuous product development.
Please be advised of the following changes to the X-Ray T2009;-
- Includes some black parts instead of orange ones. - Some of the small parts will be over the time converted into either black or remain at the silver colour due various manufacturing, material variation and logistics reasons. - Some of the tiny parts may include shims, stands, nuts, etc. It is a running change. The major parts like the bulkheads and shocks remain in the orange colour.
The exact specifications of the T2 009 during its development may vary but be reassured that the quality and precision that X-Ray stands for will not be compromised."
Well I have sourced an orange layshaft form Demon and orange servo posts from Nexus in the States, so will soon have a proper 009

That sort of thing would really pee me off.... spending how much on a new chassis and its not all as you would expect? they could at least include the older colour matched stuff! so is it a hybrid of colours on sunday? I may some purple shims spare for the colourful xray you have there I suppose the advantage though is you dont have the situation of..... thank you for buying this car, btw parts x, y and z are now redundant due to new parts we didnt want to include - but make u buy more.

Just been reading the X Ray column in Radio Control Car Racer about all the new bits they are trying. Seems there may be an upgrade due soon. I am sure the new bits will not be orange though, maybe purple?

I heard that Xray are going to be offering it in more than one colour, so are making some parts universal in colour, and just the main bits will be purple...
Sounds like brand dilution to me...

No doubt the orange layshaft is in one of the other packages I can see but I doubt Nexus will get the servo posts here by Saturday. All made up for of course by the fact Ihave my packs of spare orange shims and can see a package that almost certainly contains our new Gen 3 speedo ;D but I daren't open it until her indoors goes to bed, price disclosure would result in instant gooley removal

You're telling me Les. It would be more understandanble/acceptable if it was an 007 But hey I think the orange pit towel has just arrived ;D Thanks for the post on the servo, most helpful. Got today off so hoping to get some hours in and have the car ready for Sunday, although my soldering take ages and has never been my strong point as I proved last Sunday!

Oh yes, orange servo posts arrived from Nexus today. 5 days from order from USA including weekend is impressive ;D Can't imagine why Newtonian kept coming up with pieces from his car saying this is real gold. Maybe he secretly admired the orange so much he was hoping I would swap. Deah Poor old Matt, he might be able to bunk off school early but once we get a real 009 on the circuit he really will be history, even once he has fitted new A arms because he keeps taking the screws out ;D. Get a life, get some real design

I do hope all those quiet members realise we're all the best of mates when it comes to racing... and any time captain c hubs wants to drop in a 13.5 then i might be able to give him somthing more to race.. it's not cool to boast about how much faster you are when you're running a quicker motor in the first place!

The major parts like the bulkheads and shocks remain in the orange colour. Pete H rom DMCRC had his car stood on and it broke the front bulkhead... guess what Silver and black(more like navy blue). After some digging yet to find anyone with Orange...
