I have been thinking about this Matt and have changed my mind. The objective I would say is to reward best performance. So in principle it is sound but maybe you need to/should factor in breakdown. This can be nothing more than your time time has come or bad luck because some nonce has punted you off the track into a wall when you were running in 1st position. It seems to me from that angle then that qualifying time is better, being after all best performance from multiple runs.
Just my thought, I cannot get too excited either way.

Last Sunday was the count back on the 3rd final? Or qualifying. I had the same number of points as the guy in second.

dont get your point there pete :S it looks like this post kinda came from nowhere? any background to this???
in answer to your Q sam, I asked the RD and if you tied on points then they would compare your worst finals - person with the best worst final run would win...
eg both got 4 points, racer A worst final was 19 306, racer B worst final was 19 304. Racer B would win as his worst final was better.. Confusing Aye! and a good job we don;t have to do that much! But at least it means you have to perform in EVERY final. Eg not running one final could ruin your score if you end up tieing.

Eg not running one final could ruin your score if you end up tieing. Not as simple as that Reubs. In the Pro Stock B final the first 3 positions had 4 points. Dan won with his 3rd final position of 5th but Craig and the other guy had both broken down and so both had a 10. Craig came 2nd because he qualified 2nd and the other guy 4th (ie normal method!!) "It means you have to perform in every final" . If you check the results graph for the first final you will see that Craig was in 4th position (having been punted off by back markers on the 2nd or 3rd bend) when he broke down. Hardly not performing. I can't believe people do not try in the finals so it doesn't seem to add anything so what's the point. But no pram and no toys on this one You could I guess I take the running position for anybody breaking down, rather than 10th. If you want to make it really complicated have the RD differentiate between break down (own fault) and being punted off(not own fault). The of course you have to arbitrate between was it an own fault breakdown or, as in Craig's case, almost certainly the result of being hit. Actually the more I think about it, it is a better idea - think of all the arguments we can have ;D

indeed Pete. How strange as Craigs worst run was 2 laps, Pauls was 17 laps?
Which leaves 2 things: Craigs Average completed laps were better. Or of the worst run Craigs Ave laps that he completed were better than Pauls?

Hmmm, maybe I'm in the minority, but surely it should be final scores, and if still tied then BEST final time rather than worst...?? Then you move onto Q position (if that is unlikely) Its how the nats are run... But maybe I'm being blinkered ( don't see it myself mind)
