Did you know that 400cst oil is not 40wt? And, is Edit 400cst oil the same as Much More's 400? I've suddenly got in all a confusion about shock oil, I've been using Edit 350cst all year, thinking it was 35wt, but it seems I've probably been underdamped? It's closer to 27wt or 30wt, depending on if the wt in question is Associated or Losi! More info at www.twf8.ws/php/tip/shock.htmlOh, and then, every batch is different... The sooner we all just talk in cst the better I think, that's the only reliable measurement? Help!

there's a nice conversion table on the net somewhere for comparing the different manufacturers oils. I'll see if I can find it and post the link when I get home. They do differ a bit

yup, I knew that... hence why my pit box only has Much More oil. The main reason is, there is no standard for the manufactures to work too effectively... so ones 500wt would be quite different to antohers 50wt... A good example is Losi, whose oils are quite thick compared to other makes. Batch-to-Batch variation is difficult to avoid (we are talking mixing chemicals after all), however best tip is to avoid filling up shocks from different bottles of oil... if your running equal oils all round, use the same bottle... and at least it will be consistant from shock to shock. Personally, I always liked the AE oil, was very consistent. However, it's bloody hard to find, and most of the top guys use MuchMore now (plus, it's cheap ), so it's what I've converted over too.

Yup I knew that... hence why my pit box only has XRAY oil. 350cst pretty much = 30wt in the XRAY world

yep great support , shame the team drivers use either much more or schumacher tho Maybe cause Xray shock oil is £9.49 a bottle and schumacher is £2.84 a bottle and Much more is £7.15 a bottle or maybe cause Xray oil is rubbish, i'll never find out when its £10 per bottle. How is it that Xray's oil is so much more expensive...? even HPI and Associated is around £3 a bottle

But what do we do so close to the weekend? Keep that 400Cst oil, or change to what you think you had a put some 40w in? or use some 35w because it will be close to 400Cst (maybe just a little harder)!
d**n you Simon, why didnt you put this up after the weekend. Then I could have been naive to all of this!

Changed all my oils to the EDIT stuff that Terry sells some time ago. I noticed at the time that it seemed a lot thinner than the Losi oil I was using and now have got used to it. If you go by 300 = 30WT etc as we used to then I am running much heavier now than before. 500 rear and 450 front. Seems to be about the same now as before. Just different numbers.
If the car is working then why change it.
Just Simon trying to confuse everyone ;D

Bwah can I bothered with all this misinformed comment? Alright, just to please Sedgey mind you. 1. Th team drivers spend so much money travelling around they cannot afford a premium product 2. Yes it says so on the can and it is against the trade descriptions act to call something premium unless it is. 3. How do convince an Xray driver to put oil in his £15 (plus spring)shock absorber that costs 2 quid. Precisely. 4. If you put too much milk in your eggs the 500cst XRAY oil is great for rescuing the consistency of the scrambled eggs. Would you trust a £2 oil to do that, of course not 5. Actually the huge bottle is the paltry sum of £8.16 6. And although I have only done it once, with its pleasant smell it is great alternative if you leave your shaving gel at home. Next one please.

Demon list at that price but are out of stock on the 350cst. Possibly due to the distribution channel not being fully stocked yet? Of course you could use some Paco Rabanne in the interim but that would be expensive ;D
