Went to the dentist today with suspected absces and in quit a bit of pain. It turned out they need to sort out some work the army dentist did about 8 years ago. I ended up having a route canal and felt the pain slowly subside from the tooth only to be followed by a worse pain in the back pocket to the tune of £320. As I was paying I was imagining what I could get for that money. (sorry Terry) Now that is a good trade to be in 45 Min's work for that much. All you younger members forget the building trade and IT this is what you should be doing. End of rant ;D

Ouch.. Sorry to hear that Darren, on both counts. Having been in a similar situation before, I have to say the Toothache is worse.. But that being said.. I agree with you on the other note. We are all in the wrong industry.. I work that out to be £426.66p an hour!!! They get away with it because your held to ransom by your pain. Im assuming that was a private dentist, which means the majority of that is profit!! But then.. I suppose a man has to pay for his Ferrari and Mansion somehow..

I have friends who are Dentists, and don't worry, they don't make that much really.
Nearly all profit? Hardly, overheads of a Dental Practice are significant, and the equipment costs would make you weep...
And beans on toast for years when training...
And, of course, they have to spend all day with their hands in someone elses manky gob!
Okay, I'm done with defending them now...

Don't think I have ever watched The Bill. Much prefer East Enders personally but do not like toothache either. Hey Ho such is life.

My dentist is also a good customer of mine and when I worked in his cave the conditions were appalling. No honestly he has two houses one in the UK and one abroad. I would Imagine that a practice does cost a lot to run,but they still do Earn good money. Having said that he has done a great job and is a really nice chap just a bit of a shock after not paying a penny for so long. Mouth feels great today so was worth it. I must imagine that it's not a cheap business to run though and to be fair he has done an excellent job. It was just a shock after not paying a penny for so long.

hey guys, sorry this is Jen, Martins better half, and Ill apologise later for crashing his post, but to let you know I work as a dental nurse and the surgery I was working for in Ringwood is taking on NHS patients, and sorry Darren but if I'd known I'd of told you and you could of got that work done on the NHS, but just in case you want to avoid that skint feeling again it may be worth giving them a call and registering with them, no is 01425 473938. And yes they do earn a fortune, my last dentist used to take home nearly 8,000 a month after expenses., and he only did a four day week!
