For those of you entered or thinking about it. There is a Racechat thread for the STCC which has its round there the week before, which ferrets out that Saturday practice will cost them another £10. I went onto the Schumacher forum to see if there was anything there on the same subject. There isn't but what is there is a current thread noting that on the BTCC Saturday there is a buggy meeting. Posting on the 24th from the BTCC guy stating it is being discussed with Moto Arena. Posting yesterday from the Moto Arean guy -
"Practice for sunday will be held from 7pm- late More info shortly"
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So we start at 7pm earliest; then drive back to Ringwood; set up the car, recharge everything; go to bed; for one hour; get up again; drive back to Silverstone.
BTW - no statement on whether Saturday night practice is £10 or free
Plan A - enjoy yourselves, we are withdrawing
Plan B - will enter the STCC round and use the race meeting as 6 timed practice runs; will probably get disqualified when they discover we have a 10.5 in the car ;D ;D ;D

; will probably get disqualified when they discover we have a 10.5 in the car ;D ;D ;D That made me laugh a fair bit! nice plan though, sure you wont get disqualified when they realise your also using Sorex tyres? Its a real disgrace from motor arena to do that and really disrespectful to the series events. Yes ok, they have bills to pay, BUT dont all tracks? and if they think they will get more money without the meeting, then why volunteer? It could really hurt them, especially as its their first year to hold a meeting. I think most people will be following suit with you there Pete. however ill be using the BTCC motor arena event just to get use to Mod, Rnd1 BTCC will be my motor / gearing starting point setup most likely.

Its not clear to me Reuben what has happened here, on either of the series. It is though unsatisfactory to find out after booking-in that your race fee is going to be double the published price - especially as the Silverstone Premier Inn seems to be about the most expensive in the country.

Not impressed by this either. 80ish (being conservative) drivers trying to practice in around 3 hours is going to be a nightmare. As for the Premier Inn, this time Team Frome are slumming at the Travel Lodge down the road.

Here is a idea. Dont go demand any money paid back and get as many others to do the same. This way they might realise they cant treat people like this. Just a thought !!!!

so, you guys are all so sure thats it's all moto arenas fault ? i talked to the guys on sunday and they tried to move the dates, but it's the last round and kyosho can only do that date, also the date was published before it could be confirmed by moto arena.

Hi Stumpy, I think that is a bit unfair.
I started the thread to alert our guys entering the BTCC round that there were some issues.
In my 2nd post I was not laying the blame at the feet of a specific party. I opened my post with “Its not clear to me Reuben what has happened here, on either of the series”.
Reuben specifically addressed MA but that was on the point of charging the series for their practice, not the screw up on the BTCC practice day.
The other posts were not specific and you may or may not be right in interpreting the comments to be aimed at MA.
FWIW I can accept the problem with the BTCC practice day, unfortunate certainly but people make mistakes, we all do. I am sure people are trying to do the best they can but the impact is substantial.
I find the other point though totally unacceptable. TC summer regional/national championships do not charge the fee again for practice (I exclude TORC from that statement as I have not raced with them and have no idea what their charges are). There is no mention on Central Booking that Moto Arena is different (as far as I can see). It is therefore totally reasonable for one to assume that when CB says the cost is £10, that is the cost. To find out, after booking has opened and you have submitted your entry to the race and booked your hotel, that in fact the cost is double the quoted price is, well whatever word you want to use.
How that has come about with both series does make one wonder what has been going on, indeed how could it have happened? Anything more would be pure speculation and there is no point in that. Let us hope it all comes out in the wash.

lets also bear in mind that a club pays a ground rent between £50 and say £120 a week and has the membership to do so.
Moto arena is on probably the most expensive area given the track and what races there. Having raced there a few times the facilities are the best and the track consistant. The new layout has slowed the lap times and added a technical element without messing the flowing nature of the track. At the weekend i overheard what the possible costs are and prices of around £5000 a week are payable. Given this i can understand why a charge for practice is needed and personally i would be happy to pay a extra £10 a days practice and keep such a facility available for racing.

I have been up once to race and twice to practice and it amazes me that it's still open. The 2 practise days there was only 3 racers all day. At £10.00 a head I would be surprised if that covered the cost of the lighting. Let alone the staff and the shop/cafe. Everyone that has used it thinks it's great I just hope it stays open.

All the best to moto arena, they created my wildest dreams in making that facility! Unfortnately the only way i can see that business model surviving is if a Premiership football team bank rolls it

Well Me, Martin and Liam made the trip up to Moto Arena and went for a practice with the STCC crowd.
Lots learnt, its a very bizare grip level and even when the grip comes up, it doesnt feel very natural to drive on. Weird is the only way I can describe it. But still a decent layout and fantastic facility - even if the noise from the F1 simulator started to get annoying after being there for 20 minutes and we were the other end of the hanger.
looking forward to the 1st round of the BTCC next week.

on a positive note it is very easy to find things you drop on the floor, and the Supercharger burger is amazing...

Reuben had by his own omission an ok day. Apparently you cant run 1 set of sorex all day when your are doing mod I think he put it 4th of 6 in the b, and finished where he qualified (correct me if i'm wrong reubes) I will say he did win the competition for the most hilarious looking front left tyre i have ever seen. Liam was super quick when we eventually found out that his transmitter trim was rolled into the brakes so it wasn't ever hitting full throttle, unfortunately reliability problems stopped him qualifying well but he ended up walking his finals. I had radio glithces all day - put my car 9th in the c - in final 1 moved from 9th 2 second in a lap - raido glitch - race over - final 2 damaged my transponder when i changed receiver - counting odd laps... apparently i was 3 laps of the leader!!! Ian Newtons car was like a bullet down the straight - and he took great pleasure in telling me about it and it looks like he got his tc6 working quite nicely. once again the supercharger reigned supreme, and moto arena has very funny grip levels.

Yeh it was an Ok day, not rubbish but not great. My single lap pace was good, good enough to put me on the pace with the other drivers, except the top boys who were a stupid amount quicker. I just couldnt string it together for 5 minutes, My pace would have put me 9th or 10th in the A, but cleverly I ballsed it up every run with stupid mistakes. Mod was definitely a challenge and a single lapse of concentration meant my car in the wall at the end of the straight - didnt break anything though Struggled with consistency was the story of my day! I need to learn how to setup the car for higher grip levels than normal. 5 runs plus 2 practice runs in the morning:

Yup I just checked the results quickly and Martin would have moved up too and made the B final on raw pace. Looks like you must have had big off in Final 1 Reuben as you moved into 2nd (great start!) then dropped right down a bit later. Never mind all good experience for the Nats maybe you should run Mod in Open on Sunday and get some setup practice - we can put a 10.5 in and try and chase you

Yeh I hit the fence at the end of the straight and the marshall just looked at the car and then looked at me, it was only about 4 foot from him but took him 13 seconds to get to the car, pick it up, look at it in amazement that it was in one piece, look at me, then slowly put it back on the track, but I fort my way back up to 4th and was only just behind 3rd on the last lap
