One things for sure..If I had run brushed this year in the SLCC I would have gone through at least 15 sets of brushes and 2 motors by now and thats not including practice and club racing Blimey no wonder you want to go Brushless Les. Isn't that over egging it. We haven't been through a motor yet, nor likely to (and it has done all the RRC rounds bar one too) and have used 3 sets of brushes in SLCC ie 3 rounds. You see, all these innocent newbies being sent astray by such propoganda

But is it as quick as a Lespeed 27t Motor? ;D
Innocent newbies listen up, don't be fooled by Pete's charms. I spent more time cursing and working on my old hat brushed motor today than I ever have on the beautiful brushless motors. Never again will such as nasty thing enter my car. ;D ;D ;D
I HATE BRUSHED MOTORS

In all honesty, having watched the 17.5's against the 27's today... there really isn't anything in it, certainly at least round our track. I watched the last stock final fairly closely, and with Dan running brushed, and Les, Graham and Barry all running 17.5's (all good drivers), I have to say I saw very little difference between the types of motors, with no one type having a distinct advantage. Maybe at a bigger track, the stocks would have better top end, but then that can be countered with the better bottom end. But for our track, certainly running them together is fine. As for the 13.5's.. ok, they aren't as quick down the straight as a 10.5 (well, my 10.5 anyway, which for some reason is still bloody quick down the straight, sorry Adam, hehe!), but I think that's not unexpected. Unfortuantly, IMO, one of the motor classes is going to have to give... either 10.5 or 13.5. As other's have mentioned, maybe the US have got it right, and in a few years, it'll be easy to make 13.5 the intermediate class, and include 10.5 in mod instead. When we are all brushless (it'll happen Pete ), then the equivilancey questions will evaporate. As for now, plan for the future I say...

Mark, This year it was 28t in stock and 23t in superstock, yes tamiya motors.
As of next year it looks as thou it will be 28t again in stock and 10.5t brushless in superstock/trf class. Any make of motor, following every other chamionship. This is not confirmed yet thou.

You see, all these innocent newbies being sent astray by such propoganda Not at all Pete!! all due respect this is pehaps your first season at a resonable compedative level??..ask any top level driver who has compeeted at a good level how many motors, coms, brushes they go through and you may find my estimation is very conservative...no propergander just plain facts, ask around...Ask Mark T how many brush set's he went through just at Yeatley(5 or 6 I think)...besides tune them right and they dont last as long as you think...A full size com is no good untill its half worn and how many skims are left in that to keep it compedative..not many plus brushes per heat!!!! You say you hav'nt gone through a motor yet?..blimey I would be doubting the state of the can mags after a only a month(after 5mins if it was overgeared)...ever had them checked?? expensive equipment needed here, 3 BL speedo/motor combos worth!...some how I feel I preach to deaf ears....Lots of drivers have gone BL for no reason then? and they all seem to be wrong ?? ;)To compeet at a good level there is only one way to instant agro free equal cheep power ..BRUSHLESS..Ive more chance of coverting the pope to Islam ;D...Convert or get left behind LOL Im expecting another debate regarding BL seedo's and moisture ;)Well lets squash that one now! what do newby's think was used befor water proof BR'ed speedos? Match box sized speedos with FET's stuck out of the top that used to pop with damp breath,Water proof speedos will come for BL's,as for the motors BL'S seem to be working quite well in boats ...We are bleating on the wrong thread ..all good fun!

LOL methinks thou dost protest too much Les, I was after all agreeing with you . £600 on a zapper too! And I certainly wouldn't run our brushed setup in the wet either, the ESC is not waterproof and too expensive to blow up ;D Can I get our magnets sorted or have I got to fork out another £29 next year? I guess one B and 2 A finals (fighting against 13.5s) and in the top 10 in the RRC is not too shabby for an engine with poo magnets

The club doesn't own a zapper but I know a group of people who do . I haven't seen it for a while but it really makes a difference to the cans. It's not so much about strengthening the magnets more realigning their poles. Heat build up forces the pole away from the centre of the magnet and the zapper realigns the pole to give a more even rotation. Any BR runners want to use it, just ask.

It's real worrying Keith, I had this awful nightmare last night too. I was sweeping the yard but there was nothing on the end of the handle. Must be all that brainwashing from Les having an effect.

Don't worry Pete you're fine, that was a vacuum cleaner you were holding in your dream. It does the same job as a broom but much more efficiently and a fair bit faster ;D ;D

Oh yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So with a brushed brush you have no maintenance but with a brushless brush(a hoover) you have to kepp on buying and fitting new bags. And the brushed brush works in the wet too ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Oh! no Pete, not at all, the technology has moved on since the early days of "hoover", they now come in a variety of styles and types: different powers so you can work faster or slower (depending on ability), you can have bagless with very little maintenance, or wet and dry so you can use them in the rain if you so wish, they even make them with brushless motors, they're my personal favorite. ;D ;D ;D
