I ran my 008 in so called carpet rubber spec last wed but the grip on these settings was very poor compared to the other cars who were running rubber, the only way I could get the on the pace was to use foams"a distinct advantage"
My set up was slightly harder on springs, higher roll centers ,low ride hight (4mm) with very little droop 6/5,
Ed does not change much from his tarmac set up,should I have stuck to close to my outdoor setting or am i missing something?
Unfortunately there is not much time on a wed night to experiment with set up and if someone could give this "not often carpet racer" a few pointers I would be great full.

i am also interested in this aswell, as when i ran carpet i found the harder springs a little better, but less droop gave a better speed but less grip.
I shall be there wednesday - same setup as sundays (little change to gearing...aka back to 3.7/3.8, but how should i keep the punch? set it higher or lower?) I assume lower to keep grip when punching out of corners.

Reubs I hope you are not running that FDR indoors mate??..if this is any clue I normaly run 4.7 outdoors with a10.5 and 6.4 indoors(info from the other 10.5 lads)...17.5 indoors might be 5.2 ish with mid punch to be safe??

When I ran the 415, stiffer springs were called for, along with slightly higher roll centres (especially on a big track in stock.. corner speed is king!), and heavier oils. Having said that, with the 416, all I ended up doing over my bashley setup was changing tyres (vtec27's), moving the rear shocks in one hole on the rear, and lowering the ride height (down to 5/5.5 from 5.5/6). That was it, honest. I did try other things out during the night, but that's what I ended up on. I think the biggest thing is getting the right tyres (when is it not?)... I tried the Vtec 24's in the first round last wed, and whilst they had loads of grip, made the car feel like it was binding up mid corner. For the rest of the meeting I broke out the Vtec 27's.. still, IMO, the best carpet tyre (I'm yet to be proved other wise). Sorex 32's, again IMO, with their big air gap, take too long to heat up, confounded by the harder compound. V27's just seem to strike that great balance between quick heat-up, but without overheating towards the end of the run. Hopefully I'll get to try the Jaco blues at some point soon... apparently were very good over at the IIC in vegas (plus they look good as they are premounts with spokes!! ) Think my gearing was 6.2ish on the speed passion. I actualy tried it with a bigger pinion, and less punch, but prefered it smaller pinion/more punch... then again, I always quite liked revvy motors. As for the 008... I would be more tempted to start out with your tarmac settings, then go from there.

I’m not sure I can help too much between an indoor and an outdoor set up as of yet , but from the various set-ups I tried at Bashley when you guy’s were racing at the SLCC I have found that the indoor set up seems to work OK outside with some changes. The thing’s I ended up changing were as follows: Ride height Indoors 5mm front /5.5mm rear, Outdoors 6mm front /6.5mm rear Droop Indoors 6.5 Front 5.5 rear (The Yokomo works very well indoors with very little droop) Outdoors 6 Front 4 rear Outdoors I run the same springs indoors and outdoors HPI Pinks and Silvers but I will run roll bars all round indoors, the car however outside was much better with the roll bars removed, so the car will be stiffer indoors because of this. I run RP30 tyres indoors and have always found them good but to be honest I haven’t ever run Vtec 27’s but from Ed’s comments I think I might give them a whirl at some point . At the moment I have left everything else as is between the two set ups, but just consider when I was testing on my own I could have been a couple of seconds of the pace per lap and not known but the car did feel a lot better. I hope to find out this Sunday how competitive it is .

On a small track like New Milton you probably can run that sort of gearing without too much motor temperature, but IMO the motor will work much beter and punchier at the gearing Les has mentioned. I ran my 13.5 at 5.5 to start with (motor temp about 40 - 45 deg) but now I'm running at 6.0 and the car is definately faster out of the corners.

Crazy Bob popped his Orion 10.5 last time he ran on a Wednesday. Don't know what gearing he was running though. No fan...

Very hectic with a 10.5 on such a small track, really about the limit for there
