What gearing is working for 10.5s on our track? LRP/Nosram variety.

Not sure Simon but the Novak,Speed Passion like 4.8. 4.5...If the motors sintered start at around say 5.0 and temp check it ?

My Novak SSPro is RED HOT at 4.8, I'm sticking with 5 dead. Tried 4.5 at Cotswolds and that was pretty warm as well.
If it's an Eraser it'll have a bonded rotor and they will not take hard gearing so you'll have to go higher. Start high and gear it up until it gets to the right temp like Les says.

Okay, it's the 'current' Nosram Storm Evolution 10.5, which is sintered. The handy chart inside suggests 6.6 for a 'small track' and 5.0 for a 'big track'. So I'm guessing it'll be somewhere between the two... I'm thinking of starting at around 6.0 and going from there... What temps should one be aiming for? Oh, and I just spotted on RaceChat ( www.rcracechat.com/vb/showthread.php?t=44246) that it seems the LRP version has a habit of going pop. Especially at the Bashley STCC... I'll fit a phat phan...

Don't forget braking heats up the motors as well. There is no friction from brushes to aid slowdown so braking is all done through reverse polarity connection to the winds. So heavy brakers will heat up motors as well.

Brilliant info! So gear them sensibly, set them sensibly, drive them sensibly - all of which is necessary for our sensible track anyway!
On the Sphere I was thinking of setting the punch level at 1 or 2 to begin with, default is 3. What do you think?
I've never really been a braker, but I'm guessing that might have to change, I'm seeing me adding some drag brakes to suit my driving style!

Yep setting 1 is what i use all of the time
Theory??...A driving style will dictate any motors temp(progresive V thotle jammers..LOL) as will a track/track condition and transmision drag.a given FDR for the same motor may not work,..ie same motor, same FDR two styles, two different cars= two different temps!!...I feel finding a working FDR is a personal thing and prehaps some new drivers can do damage to any motor through copying a faster drivers FDR?.....Ian Lloyde and I run the same 17.5,I run quite cool at 3.55 his gets hot at 3.7!...Mark Ts Novak 10.5 is hot at 5.0 but i can run mine happily at 4.7,nothing wrong with that!"!he's fast ,it's his style!!..thats why I dont like advising FDRs and tend be on the cautious side when asked.,

as a side note, I was at 5.31 with my '07 spec Orion yesterday... didn't lack for speed (just needs a better bod behind the sticks!)
