So I am thinking my lack of battery this weekend was due to bad charger that dad had for 12v car batteries.
So what do people use to charge their 12v's with?
and how do you know what charge to put into it? etc...
has anyone used the Pb setting on their rc chargers? (last time I tried, it fried my ansmann, and dont wana fry my BC6)
any help would be great.

Lead acid batteries are very easy to charge any car battery charger will do the job, I'm not sure about using your new BC6 though, it does need to be able to cope with high current loads, as a Pb battery will pull as many amps as it can get when it's charging, at around 14 volts that's a pretty big charger.
Try reviving your old Battery by topping it up with distilled water (be carefull not to get any splashes from the battery on your clothes as it will burn holes). All you need to do is unscrew or pop open the caps on top and fill them with the dis. water until it covers the plates fully (don't leave the charger on while your doing this as the gas inside the battery is highly explosive,

Reubs you are wasting your time using that charger to charge a LA (lead acid) battery, find a car charger from a motorist discount center like Halfords, they are quite cheep. the cheaper versions are only a trickle charge about 5/10 amp max, some makes are safe to leave on for quite a while (day or two) and will sense when the battery is near full charge, others wont and will keep charging at the set rate no mater what state of charge the battery is in ,this will overheat the battery causing the acid (electro-lite)to evaporate and give off a very flammable gas!!!
The worst thing for a LA battery is not to be used or left for a long period of time in a low state of charge,if the battery is not in a regular state of charge /discharge a chemical reaction will eventually destroy the plates inside...tricke charge it if not used for a day at least once a month.
Should any one have the use of a boost charger (over 20/30 amps) be fully aware of what you are charging some "sealed" lead acid battery's do not like a fast "boost " charge..always read the battery instructions..an incorrectly charged battery is a potential Bomb.

Stick it in a lipo sack!!! I hear that Pete has a spare one Col Ok guys I need your help. I thought young Craig was a chip off the old block, ie having a modicum of intelligence. However, given his choice or raffle prize, clearly not So I need to get rid of a Lipo sack, if not two. I went onto the Poole & District web site last night and it seems that disposal of hazardous waste is fraught with difficulties. Therefore anyone requiring a sack is welcome to one, I might even consider buying you a bacon sarnie for the kindness. Just pm in advance as I prefer not to travel with them unless necessary We can't make it this weekend as it is Ross' birthday party but will be there the following week
