I have been googling aspects of setup to find what does what when you adjust certain aspects of the car. and found this article - makes a really interesting read, alot of info in one article so i plan to make a small table that has each change and what it effects. Heres the article www.horizonhobby.com/Articles/Article.aspx?ArticleID=1562

You might also want to think about it from the opposite perspective Reuben. One of the great things about Xrays is that apart from top quality materials and build , you also get exceptional documentation, including a neat reference card which maps each handling trait, eg oversteer on corner exit, to each of the adjusment options, eg droop. For each each adjustment it scores its relativity to each handling trait. So if you are oversteering on corner entry, it quickly points you to the two or three best adjustments to play with to sort the problem.
That of course does not remove the need to understand what effect an adjustment type has on the car, the more you understand that the more you can choose how best to rectify a problem. But with all the options available to you it can help you select the most appropriate one for you for a given problem.

I would rate the XXX Main book as good, if you want a read I'll lend you my copy to see if you find it of help.
It does have a quick ref guide which is of help. The problem I find with all the books and the internet advise is they all contradict each other.

XXX Main top book. You can buy it new if you can't get it on a loan never to be returned basis Reuben . It doesn't though cover Ackermann which is kinda strange

The problem I find with all the books and the internet advise is they all contradict each other. Spot on Martin........Even the so called famous Xray set up manual quotes incorrectly. The xxx main book does generalize quite well but you can not beat hands on experiance..fact!!...most of us can generate more or less traction/steering to a chassis but the black art is to get the "balanced" feel to the drive!! Reading set up books for me can puggel the mind and sometimes send you off in the wrong direction!! Example: two identical tracks, same lay out ,same Tarmac surface. One is bumpy like ours the other is super smooth...do you use the same set up apart from ride hight/droop??....Would you use the same adjustment to cure "say" lack of rear grip on these same but "different " tracks??

I've got the xxx main setup book, I found it helped me to learn the basics but I find it a bit confusing and misleading, I've always struggled to learn from books though and I find I can learn more and more quickly if I work it out for myself, I would still obviously use books for certain information, gear charts etc. but I never feel a book can answer my exact question correctly. If for example I need more rear end grip, I pick up the book and it tells me it could be anyone of 90% of the settings of the car before I've tried them all the last final's finished ;D ;D ;D

and it's also where a large amount of experience comes in... knowing what to change, if you want a large or small effect, is the next step on from knowing what change does what. It also goes by personal preference. I have a tendancy to alter roll centre rather than spring rates to reduce roll... however I know some people will stiffen the car up with springs before ever going near the roll centre. Also, certain changes have differing effects on different cars... they may all look the same, but the devil is in the details (base wheelbase, weight distribution, steering setup etc). Oh, and if anyone professes to knowing everything there is to know about setting cars up... they are lying
