Another question! - so many questions from such a tool!! My Pro diff has gone gritty again - second time in two weeks.. both times after I've run on carpet - both times it's been the thrust that's gone gritty not the actual diff Keith spoke ages ago about some ceramic captive thrusts, anyone tried one? Anyone got any bright ideas to stop the thrust going gritty... I've flushed and cleaned and then re-greased using associated black goo.. is it just picking up dirt do you think? - or hairs off the carpet? Matt ;D ;D

not sure on that one Matt, I used the standard grey grease from the kit and since I have had the diff I have only re-built it once. And it didnt need doing because it still felt as smooth as the first day, but I did the whole car so I thought ide re-fresh the diff.......
but the majority of the use is outside? so maybe inside you pick up the hairs a lot?

I very much doubt it Matt...I feel the same way as Reubes, never had a prob!! and I have run mine on carpet!!!...if you think its the thrust race,I presume you have fitted the correct "hardened " washers and amount off balls???...check the surface of the thrust washers you may have some faulty ones "poor hardening"
Just out of interest I am still runing the original kit thrust race on my club car

Okay! so I've built and rebuilt the diff three times today!
I spotted on build number two that i had only 7 thrust bearings where once there was 8! Although worryingly it made no difference to the feel of the diff..
Without the diff screw tightened I can push both halves together quite hard, and it'll freely rotate without any "graunchy" feeling - soon as that diff screw goes in it's another story - it's fairly smooth now.. but nowhere near where I would expect it to be.. when it's in the car it feels almost smooth take it out and it feels like a bag o' gravel..
you can all have a feel tomorrow - back to the drawing board me thinks!

What greases are you using?
And is your screw straight - wasn't there an issue with the cyclone diff screw?

You know i looked at the screw and questioned it's straightness more than once! although chose not to check it - which now seems rather foolish as it's 20 past 8..
I used MuchMore black grease, brand new pot from tezza, whilst i'm not a fan of doing diffs in the field so to speak - I do have a spare diff screw NIP from Reality the other day, maybe fit together that thrust and see how I get on! with a totally new one in the car!

the edit carbide caged thrust race is the one to use ! , also when you build the diff lightly sand the diff rings with 1000-1200 wet or dry (this will let you run the diff slightly looser and not slip) associated lube and grease r best bet

I remember you building a scythe diff for me a Cotswolds! I did the 1000 Grit on the diff rings, should i do the thrust ring also? i've never rubbed down the thrust washers before... Matt
