Please note the following information taken directly from the RC-timing technical information;
"It is often desirable to be able to sort qualifying races based on championship points. This is done by updating each member’s ability based on their championship points, and then sorting heats on ability as normal. To update abilities from the championship points, make sure that Update Member Abilities is selected when adding points after each round. See ‘Adding Points To A Championship’, Page 53. Abilities will automatically be updated after each round using the Overall points for each class, looking only at points from the number of rounds to count. To calculate abilities, a percentage is calculated for each driver. For example, a driver who has done 3 rounds, scoring 200 points at each, will receive the same ability as someone who has done one round and scored 200 points, as they have both achieved 100%. This system ensures that similar drivers are given similar abilities, so that fast drivers are not placed in slow qualifying heats, just because they missed a round of the championship."
In simple terms it would be possible for a driver to drive once and finish 20th overall and their ability would become 80.
The same way as it would be possible for a driver to run for a whole season, having range of finishes averaging out to the same figure of 80 for example.
However if a driver only runs one final out of three for example then they could win their race, but at the end, after the best two to count they would end up towards the bottom of their final (3 finals best TWO to count) this would have a knock on effect on their ability.
Qualifying is against the clock. Not against the other cars on the track. If a faster car is coming through. You must let them past, anyone deliberately holding up a faster car in qualifying will be penalised at the race directors discretion; however the onus is on drivers to be courteous and polite in their driving manor and to have an awareness of cars around them.
