yes the car was very good at aldershot ! ive chosen to run the tc5r with the view of joining cml/associated next year . being sponsored can be a drag sometimes thats why people leave teams etc . unfortunatly i wasnt in schumachers plans for 09 so i decided to show them/others what i can do !(i hope!lol) ive chatted to olly j and maybe we can help each other this year ! im sure others will remember how good associated once were and give the car a go !

Two new chassis are about to hit the track mid june The Mi4 that looks completely new for schuy and seems to carry some parts over from the 3.5,susspention,diff,spool??...not sure about this one, schuy made a mistake in my book with the 3..might pay to wait if you fancy this one, might be some early design issues??? The Photon from TOP racing (Scythe fame) again a new car hopefully without the Scythe tweak problems..this new car uses tried and tested tough suspension parts from another make and should help with spares issues and expense if a change of drive is fancied...TOP seem to have taken some "best ideas" from other makes too I must admit I do fancy the Photon,it may be a natural progression into the new flex tech and some of the parts fit from my drive...as for speed the Scythe had a good very pedigree, the Westwoods proved that!

The PHOTON does look good but will there be an importer who keeps all the spares etc?

That's very interesting... I can't find a 416 WE anywhere at the moment, and as the photon is a copy, maybe it will go well?
Only joking, now I look at it again it's not a copy at all!
Still tempted, looks tidy, download the build manual and it looks a nice build up.

Yeah I have been on the Much More site and done the tour. Looks like it could be good. Might well be tempted to give one a go. I quite like the fact it is made to suit Lipos and the balancing weight bit looks cool.
It is RED however so will not suit the blue boys, the orange boys or maybe even the purple boys...

The build guide looks far simpler than my first scythe or two were!! Matt

Red is allowed for the blue boys, being another primary colour...

The PHOTON does look good but will there be an importer who keeps all the spares etc? I will be stocking the cars with a full range of spares at Reality Racing. They are in fact all ready on order and will be with me as soon as they land in the UK.

What ever happened to your avid loydy??

Post by oldtimeracer on May 26, 2009 16:16:14 GMT
The Photon does look a bit like the Avid but that may be just the fact it is red. The Avid was OK but with no spares back up was not worth keeping.
You have to wonder why we are looking at new cars when the ones we already have are most probably better than we are anyway?
I guess it's the "bling" thing again.

maybe we're all searching for the next big thing...
I'd love to try setting up a different chassis, I know the cyclone has a wide set-up window, and I've had loadsa help but it'd be nice to put what I've learnt to the test.

It is RED however so will not suit the blue boys, the orange boys or maybe even the purple boys... Who cares what colour it is,if any car gives me 0.5 sec off a lap ill be more than happy...Any way Ian I thought red is rather fitting for you...it matches your old blood shot eyes ;D Yep the build manual does look simple,no "clutter" about the car at all!...The Russian Awesomatix 1/10th TC..now thats what I call "clutter"

Aha! I've sourced a 416 WE.
Fingers crossed it's worth 0.5s a lap. Actually I'd be happy with half that.
About a tenner per hundredth of a second, crazy!

It's quite funny really. We are all looking for that extra bit of speed or lower lap times and seem willing to risk hundreds of pounds on trying to find it.
I was clearing out the shed last night and found some old lap time sheets from Bashley. It seems my best time with the Cyclone is actually 2 seconds slower than my best time (2008) with the 415MSXX. Makes you wonder.
There is of course the "bling" factor and having that chassis that no one else has of course. Guess we are back on the stay with one make forever or change every time something new comes out.
I just want a major manufacturer to recognise there is more to racing than modified and actually make a car specifically for stock racing. I reckon it would be quite different and would make a huge difference. The first one to do it could make a fortune.

So aside from a colour argument, what would everyons ideal car look like? what bits from which cars would you have?
The Layshaft assembly on the cyclone I think is really neat, much better than the Scythe, The Akermann adjustment on the 009 is great in comparison to the adjustment on the cyclone particularly when running anything more than 1mm lower roll centre.. what else would your ideal car have?

Well I aint getting any younger and have admitted that these youngsters are much better at this game than me now but I do like to give them a run for their money when I can.
There is something good about building a new car I have to say. Something very satisfying. Trouble is will it be better, the same or indeed worse? Suck it and see I suppose.

Makes you wonder. Really? Are you comparing like for like? Remember we didn't really start running 17.5s until after you'd sold me the 415... (And I'm only wondering as I've not had the same car going that fast!)

To be honest I cannot remember that far back. It's an age thing. May well have been running brushed as well for all I know. The time sheet shows a 19.304 on a Wednesday night.
