Being an ignoramus in this area, does it make sens that with one manufacturer you turn the can clockwise to increase advance and with another manufacturer you turn it ant-clockwise?

Pete on the motors that I have been used to the front plate has a fixed position to the can,ie either the bolts run between the windings or have threads in the can making them both fixed, the timing is done buy rotating the sensor plate thats sandwiched between the can and end plate (Novaks Nosrams Lrp) or the rear end plate has a fixed sensor and is adjusted via extra drillings (Trinity)...hope this helps.
Personaly I dont mess with timing anymore,it done via the speedo.
