Well the rubber tyres are available for the F1 cars, in what grades though I don't know yet, the muchmore ones are foams, I hadn't thought about a tyre truer, which would put the cost up considerably. It's just the kits are £95 - £120 but the GT10 kits are £180 and to be honest I don't find them as attractive, it would be cool to see a load of tenth scale F1 cars lined up on the grid and checking the prices for spares they seem pretty reasonably, just need to see if we can get the tyres we need to run in our less than warm climate ? And I'd imagine everyone would admit, it would be nice to see something that isn't a touring car running around, not that they aren't nice, just for a change though.

I haven't run an F1 for years but have used them in the past with both foams and rubber tyres. Tamiya rubber tyres were a problem, no matter what compound you used an f1 was a pig to drive (always too much steering). Foams however worked very well.
That said rubber tyres are now available from TRG, Pit Shimizu, cross, HPI etc the only issue is finding which ones fit your particular chassis. Unfortunately there is no industry standard for wheel mountings between the different makes of car.
With most kits i.e. Tamiya F103 & F104 and 3 Racing F109 all being supplied on foam tyres it opens up a 'can of worms' if the class is restricted to rubber tyres, unfortunately no right or wrong answer for this one. IMO one thing is for sure the rules for F1's should restrict the tyres to F1 tyres only and not open it up for Pro10 tyres.
Lets just have a play with them and see how the class developes

Is tyre trueing really necessary for the club racer? ive heard stories of people just running the foam down to the rim? is it one of those situations where one person buys a truer and goes quicker, so people must buy one to keep up? a bit like tyre warming outdoors? personally i have no idea, just the thought crossed my mind? btw if anyone does have a tyre truer laying around and are looking to off-load it and it can be fitted with a 12th arbor. let me know

As a mater of interest Demon's racing blurb on the HPI F1 is saying there will be different "rubber"compounds available...this should help some

Apparently according to Racer Mag, there are Slicks in Soft and Medium for front and rear. Although I can't see them on the online parts list.... www.hpiracing.co.uk/parts.php?partNo=102852&type=STD&pp=24&page=3&scf8=1&scf9=1&scf10=1&scf3=1&scf7=1&scf6=1&scf1=1&scf13=1&scf12=1&scf5=1&scf0=1&cfsubmit=SubmitWhen I used to race my mate got an HPI and it almost put me off them, nice kits, keep the cost low but they seem to make their money on the upgrades everyone buys, clever marketing but why don't they just do a high spec kit so it comes with what I want and I don't need to upgrade everything, and for that reason I was intending to do for the muchmore 3racing F1 kit, although it seems to be built around foams so don't know if it would take rubber so well, I guess a lot of these will be raced inside, which kinda leaves me hung out to dry as I can't make evenings now I know there have been comments on pan cars vs F1 in this thread, how much different are they, just glorified twelths or much more ( no pun intended ) to it than that ? And surely, it's only really a matter of aesthetics which one you go for, although if we raced them together I fear the pan cars would come off better in any 'racing incidents' than an F1 being the open wheel type design.

If we did start an F1 class I'd be tempted to pick up an F103 cheap on ebay (with rubber tyres) to run, depending on what radio gear I have by then! (Could be a cheapo 27mhz acoms, but it'd do!)

Apparently the tamiya tyres aren't so good Not sure about these www.hpiracing.co.uk/catalogue.php?pg=W10FTENLooking more at the HPI it seems there are specific battery's for it the chassis has a special cut out for the cells, and there are a load of them... starting with 4.8v 4300mAh NiMH & 4.8v 3300mAh NiMH then up to 7.2v in varying mAh NiMH versions, 1800, 2400, 3300, 4300, then lipo's in 7.4v 3000mAh & 4000mAh 20c and then even more 5300mAh 30C lipo and I don't know if this is a printing mistake but it's written as 11.1v 3800mAh 30C Lipo... I don't know much about lipo so not sure if that's correct or not. My bad, just looked at the site and maybe they're just HPI branded batteries and not 'specific' to the car.... www.hpiracing.co.uk/catalogue.php?pg=ECBA
