Two motor failures of mine have been the sensor plate,one not obvious why(fractured solder joint) but one was. One of the three tiny black rotor sensors was missing,the other two appeared to come of rather easy with your finger nail.
Most of us have the motor scars to prove that this end of the motor takes a bit of a battering over the occasional blip dot so I'm surprised that such a delicate PCB and sensors last as long as they do. Some kits are now producing a U shaped motor guard especially for some of the new style narrow chassis.It may pay to invest in one??

I've had a similar failure, but it turned out it had been over-soldered at some point, I resoldered all the joints and it fixed it.
I agree though, they are delicate.

The 008 had a good motor guard, which we used, but unfortunately a redesign in at area when they moved the engine more inboard on the 009 lost it, as any of Craig's engines will testify to
