Ok so after the first meeting indoors running 12th, looks like it may have perked some interest.
Talking to the drivers running them at present (myself, darren, jason). We just like the thrill and fun of it, nothing to serious. So I thought i would add this thread for anyone looking to get involved (this is not a push, just more of a bit of information about what we are using, intend to use - this is from me personally, not committee).
Currently we are kinda just running what ever we want, and would like to keep it that way (so people can use brushed or brushless, 21.5 or 4.5 if they want). So this is more kinda "Suggested" guidance.
Currently the BRCA state that this year and from now on, 12th is to be either 1s Lipo 3.7v or 3cell Nimhs 3.6v?. Last year it was 4cell Nimhs. I reckon we can use either 4cell nimh's or 3.7v 1s lipo's due to the size of the hall.
We are all using 1s Lipo for the ease of Lipo use and then just using 1 pack for the whole night (leaving it taped in the car). But they take 20-25 minutes to charge at 5A, so need to be put straight on charge after race before you marshall.
Also if you are using a 1s lipo, you will need a Voltage booster (if your ESC is not a new 12th ESC). I am using a TQ-Booster which retail for about £20. Jas and Darren and using a much cheaper version with a bit of tinkering to get the same result.
Once you got your ESC, Battery, mini sized 12th servo. You can start looking at cars.
Link style cars are better for Lipo, as they are more suited. T-bar cars do not fit lipo's as standard and require a bit of modification and immagination (Jason done a good job of getting his Lipo in his T-bar (pictures please Jas)).
Once you got your car its time for Tyres. My preference is:
Jaco Purple front
Jaco Orange rear
for indoors you will probably need at minimum 1 set of fronts, 2 sets of rears.
you have 2 sets of rears, so each set only run twice per night, if you start applying addative more than this many times to the same set, they start to go really soft and burn away. So best of using 2 sets and alternate them between runs.
Jaco tyres also come trued, so take them from the packet and put them on the car.
Motors - I think we should just keep this unlimited, anyone using more than a 10.5 is a nutter and will break stuff really quickly due to the hall size. Im using a 10.5 with an old 2007 sphere, Darren is using a 17.5 with a Tekin and there was only 0.3 between our fastest times, and on track they were very similar apart from the straight (But the 17.5 is much much easier to drive).
I think either a 19t, 10.5, 13.5, 17.5 will be perfect and not much between them at all.
with a faster motor you will compromise ease of drive for faster top end (and probably not gain much in lap times, unless your car is planted).
Job Done, now have some fun
feel free to add stuff.
