Hi everyone Have just read the news about the transponder hire and I think this is wrong. It's one thing to not give out trophiess but to have no club transponders seems to me to be going a little far. I completely understand the need for the Club to save money in order to pay for the track resurface in the long-term but I feel that these short-term measures are going to be counterproductive in the final analysis. In order to maximise revenue streams, we need to attract as many members as possible - paring the best things about the Club for newcomers to the bone is likely to end up putting these prospective members off. In the long-term then, membership will fall and the overall ability to make sustained income will be severely compromised. As the Spring is approaching, fund-raising events appear to be a good possibility. A small increase in membership fees would be possible. Maybe members would be willing to make small donations. All provide good longer-term solutions. What do others think ?

As a person outside the club i can see the clubs direction on this issue
This isn't a money issue as the current handout transponders have been in use for at least 6 years plus and are no longer able to be repaired by the manufacturer.
Most series have now gone to PT's and do not allow the use of handouts
As long as the club has enough transponders to cover those who need them it should not be an issue

Sorry Chris but I also agree with Ian on this issue. The idea of PTs works in favour of the regular club member and newcomer too. For the regular member that hasn't got a PT they can hire and over time pay for there own while not having to fork out the whole lump for it in one go. As for the newcomer it wont cost them anything for the first couple of meetings anyway. And after this period they only pay the hire for the length of time it takes to pay for the PT. If at the end of the season its not for them they can sell them on for nearly what they cost new. The only racers that dont gain are the guys that come to the club for say 6 weeks and then diside its not for them, they will have paid for the hire for this time. But to be honest the £2.00 per meeting they have paid will be a drop in the ocean compared to the BRCA membership and the Club membership they will of paid for for 6 weeks racing. I think its a great idea and if i didn't have a PT i would be up for it.

I might even hire one to be able to buy a second one over a period of time - can add it nicely into the bug for mini racing then!

Just to confirm gents the £2 is a hire charge, the committee decided that the rent to buy, although a good idea was too difficult to administer..
If current handout users start to put two pounds a week away now they will have more than enough to buy a transponder come september if they want to own their own..
With the exception of Bransgore, I believe we are the only other local club who still have handouts and unfortunatley they are comming to the end of their life.... I'm afraid the age of "free" handouts will eventually become a thing of the past for all clubs..

Just to clarify Dave, Dorset (DMCRC) still offer hand out transponders.
That said they are personal transponders now that are loaned free of charge to the members needing them. I know that when Dorset's club transponders became uneconomical to repair (Only a month or two ago) they traded them in against some PT's which they loan out for free.
The unfortunate thing about the charge of £2 for a loan transponder is it hits the youngsters and family's hardest unfortunately.
