Drivers and mechanics What are the rules regarding wing endplates, i think they look very pretty but i never bother with them.... if my wing makes the legal dimensions can my endplates be oversized?

if your going to a series that uses the brca rules on bodywork then there is a dimension for endplates in the handbook
personally i have never used them apart from at calshot

Hi Martin I presume you need to know for the Nats? Yes there are some dimensions, they quote (WxDxH) Overall wingsize including end plates: 190x40x25 Max wing overhang 10mm (from furthest part of rear inc ribs) TBH the only time I have seen end plates used was by the Mods at Aldershot with the LTCR shell, apparently it helped around the bumpy banking with stability but the jury is still out on that one.basically the end plate should be the same dimensions as the end of the wing but excluding the curve (very little extra area) They will be very hot on body and wing dimensions as well as weight so be aware! Even if you finish a race with your wing accidentally bent high you will fail scrutineering so make sure its well mounted or at least give it a crafty bend back

thanks guys... sounds like minimal benefit for something that is either going to be a pain in scrutineering - or will fall off on track Will probably pass on that - but many thanks for the heads up... d**n scruitineers - its crazy the would penalise someone for a bent wing - especially if it was the result of a racing incident!

d**n scruitineers - its crazy the would penalise someone for a bent wing - especially if it was the result of a racing incident! It dont take much bending to be illegal (I got a bollocking last year) ,some shells wings are very close to the roof height. they place the chassis on level 10mm blocks then put a spirit level on the roof to the wing.....Most racers will take their car to scrutineering befor racing just to be sure, the guys there are very helpful,no body wants to see anyone loose FTD. Another word of advise, they will be doing Lipo voltage checks so as some chargers can inadvertently charge slightly above 8.4v it will pay to check your packs/chargers. This year there is no lee-way,any higher than 8.44 volts and you ain't racing or you may be politely asked to run some voltage off, this can be a bit tricky to do especially when they voltage check at "3 mins to go"

Gonna admit my ignorance here and say that I thought the end plates were always built into the wing. If I have ever bought a bodyshell with separate EPs then they have gone unseen! I follow 3 rules I build our bodyshells under the BRCA dims rather than on them. I weigh the car using the race meeting scales as soon as possible I get the car scrutineered as soon as possible. Yes they will be strict; not a lot of point in having rules otherwise. We got docked a qualifying result once when a crash removed 15gm of weight from the chassis. Irritating but only one person's fault and it was not the driver

Bugger!and I thought my eyes were bad ...you might need a trip to Spec-savers Pete ;D even Stevie Wonder could find them, they are moulded into an unused part of the shell "braille fashion" like the body and wing cut out lines. Next time you cut out a PROTOform shell take a look at the bit you discard after cutting out the front wheel arch, you will find ...or feel for them marked out there
