As carpet Additive worked on the low grip Motor Arenas tarmac? Does anyone actually know what the difference is between the two types and why, after all they both make the rubber sticky/supple. TBH I have never tried carpet goo outside, has any one?

Blooming obvious.
Asphalt additive in simple terms focusses on softening the rubber allowing it to deform under pressure increasing speed of heat generation.
Carpet stuff is totally different. Its molecular structure is predominantly short molecules - no idea why there is a mix - this allows itself to "attach" to the fibres as they deform under the pressure generated by the tyre. It is a similar principle to the new paint being devloped for scratch removal. That is made of short molecules and when heated - using a simlar technology to what your dentist uses these days to set fillings (laser?, i can't remember) - the paint flows and then reforms itself on cooling to give a blemish free scratch repair Can't wait for that stuff to be retailed! There is an article on the BBC site somewhere if you are interested
