just a simple question, seems fewer people are bothered by trophies by trophies, the club spends out money it could be saving for the track, do we need to give out trophies any more? Is bragging rights enough?

I haven't voted but ! think you need to consider what the juniors want as well.
I'm sure you will get a landslide vote that trophies are not needed, but that said if you looked at the faces of some of the junior members I'll think you'll agree it means a lot to them.
If you are considering getting rid of trophies for the masses you might at least want to offer something for the junior members?
Just my 2p worth.

Martin I fully agree with your statement, we may now have enough juniors in and around a club to give them their own special championship with trophies,
That magic of your first trophy is quite important!

Good comments guys. I still think the proposal is worth standing for the moment; maybe to be amended. Track pot - I had forgotten about this and certainly agree it is an important point that should be considered. Whether or not 18 trophies (3 classes * 3 people * winter + summer) makes a serious dent I don't know, but I guess maybe it does. Is it possible that trophies would make the ships more attractive bringing in more income, no idea. To be honest I had not realised that trophies had been done away with this year. I think Martin's point is important. And clearly that is influencing me (but not totally)as team manager to two juniors. One who is desperate to get trophies, the other who took his XRAY fleece off when we went into Waitrose on the way home yesterday. I accept that to some crusty 35 year old who has loads of them, another trophy just means more expense shelling out for a new cabinet. I tell you what though, if I took up the sport I would be beaming all over if I won a trophy; maybe I am just a trophy geek. Or maybe it is that trophies mean a lot more to old newbies and yunguns new or not so new, than they do to crusties. Think back to when you were young guys and how you felt when you won your first trophy for whatever. Matt my proposal was not proposing F1/F2, it was just proposing that if such a structure existed, as it did when the club probably had more active members, then F2s should get trophies too. Maybe F2 should be reintroduced into the RRC as it used to be – perhaps restricted to Stock. Its fair to say I guess that Eco covers newbies but an F2 in Stock would give the Junior TC drivers the chance to have a smile on their face (and of course older newbies who have moved up from Eco and might not smell a trophy for several years)

to give you an idea of costs - the large first place one is normally between £15 - 18 depending on style, 2nd place is about £10 - 12 and the small ones are £9 generally - it's simple maths to see that short championships with trophies cost us hard in the savings department,
also when members have a picture with a trophy and then choose to give it back, it still costs, as the plaque has been bought, and stuck on, and we generally don't end up with whole sets spare, so as is the case now, we've got a lot of odd sets of trophies..
this tells us two things.. - some people are clearly taking trophies, the cost of them is rather high!

You will notice Reubs that Ross's trophy has the number 2 on it ;D. May 2008, haven't you done well That followed on from the wonderful Brass Monkeys series when Ross beat Craig and got another trophy LOL

The other option could be a medal instead? Are they any cheaper? Or possibly have a single trophy that the top 3 drivers keep for a year and return for the next championship? That way we could just add new plaques for each year?

What about vouchers for the top 3 to use in a certain well known rc shop?

£15 £10 £5 - 30quid on a 8 week championship it's still pricey.. and does mean the racer has to use the voucher at that shop.. where that may not be there local shop or their regular shop.. (visiting racers for example)
all good thoughts so far!

No I agree with Reuben. Club also runs too many championships with lots of classes which also involes more trophies. I do however think it is more important for juniors to get trophies.
Personally always handed mine back to the club.

I have several boxes of trophies in my loft if you want them.....
