As a tarmac track it's been around since 2001 thanks to the hard work of Steve and Tony and the committee back then. Sadly they don't race anymore but without their hard work we wouldn't have the track we have today. Before that it was an off road track constructed from astro turf and some concrete slabs. Hence the bits of astro round the caravan and the slabs now being used for the crawlers. This is also the reason we have the Laguna Seca bombhole at the top of the thermometer. This is a pretty good Marmite feature not seen on many (if any) touring car tracks round the south. In the last 7 years the club has regularly osted the SL and STCC championships and has seen the lap records on meeting one (17 laps in stock, 18 in modified) be shattered thanks to new cars and motor and battery technology coming up in leaps and bounds. When I first started outdoors I ran 1900 SCRs and a P2K stock motor did 16 laps with an HPI Pro2 and came 2nd overall. Phil had some photos in the shop a while ago as did Daryl if you want to see some old shots of the track and Ian Lloyd with some hair (not much more, but a little ) Mark

Nice history Mark, I first appeared at the club maybe a year or two before you did and I didn't know about Tony (Lilley) being involved, only Steve (Gregory)! I obviously had my ears closed, or my head in a touring car...
The history of the track and all the hard work that went into it makes it especially important that we look after it, it's a valuable resource to us, it took volunteers to build it, and it takes volunteers to keep it all up together.
Hope to see lots of people on this Saturday (14th June) to help with maintenance to keep it looking great for the year ahead.
