Firstly I'd like to comment on how nice is to run brushless - After A long 5 hour practice session, I can honestly say - I LOVE BL!!! The rest of this thread has two uses; one for me to get my thoughts on paper, and two so you can all laugh at my foolish - if not obvious mistakes I'm bound to have commited! Now based on other peoples experience - I geared at 4.99 and turned my punch down. autobrake as it's called on setting 4. The car was very oversteery on entry to corners in power off situations so I checked and adjusted ride height - 6mm all round tried again - slight improvement - still oversteery - but not as bad so I softened the rear springs a little and tried again. this made things a lot better - so I carried on practising with it the way it was. The rest of the car has -2deg camber and +2.5 deg toe out on the front 3deg on the rear - I did roughly 50 laps like this give or take a couple of trips on the grass - it wasn't too bad. however towards the end of the "session" the car seemed to be 4 wheel drifting into corners. After checking track temperature at 44C I decided to pull the car in....temperature check on tyres showed warmest corner to be 40deg and coolest to be 37 now after running 50 laps with the sphere (I was just having too much fun) I checked the motor temperature - 64 degrees - well within its working limits and the sphere was only warm.. Could this 4 wheel drift be caused by the Sorex32s being out of temperature range? or could it be down to the grass being cut this morning? Or have I made some super silly car setup mistake??? I'm off to skim my rotor now Matt

matt I hope Im reading this wrong mate ...front 2.5 deg toe out ..no no no Mr Chumbly Warner..no more than 1 deg pref 0.5 on your chassis type...thats why your steering is odd If you have 6 deg castor blocks fitted 1 deg neg camber on front..4 deg castor blocks, 1.5 deg neg camber....rember the more castor you run the less neg camber you will need!!

Way too much front toe. Sorex tyres have a ridiculously small optimum operating window so theoretically you should have been on 36s. BUT I have never run 32s so you might want to treat the comment with a pinch of salt; just quoting Sorex specifications.

righty! the toes a 1/2 a deg out cambers at 1 deg all round Ride height is 6.5 there's no tweak the FDR is 4.99 and the speedos on punch number one.. the caster block where on the right way round so I must have learnt something! well see what tomorrow brings then - with being race control blokey as well I doubt there'll be much setting up time!

Matt's right, there's no such thing as a stupid question. Ride height seems a bit excessive, should be more like 5mm.

Give it a try at that then, Ian knows a fair bit more about the scythe than I do.

i was told by an old newtonion or should that be Old Newton to run 6/6.5 He's not far wrong Matt, depends on soft or hard springs Basic setting for yours and tends to be my starting point no mater what the chassis is. Front droop=6 rear =5 front ride hight =5/5.5 rear ride hight=6/6.5 rear toe=3deg toe in front toe= 0 to 1 deg toe out rear camber=1,5/2.0 neg front camber =1.0/2.0 neg depending apon castor castor= 4 deg or 6 depending apon steering responce shock oil=45 to 30 wt depending apon springs,40 wt allround is good starting point As for your FDR it sounds safe to me but check with the staples for a "safe ratio" they know your motor well!

matt remember that setup is a personal thing up to a point somebody's setup will work for you but to get faster you have to go your own way. i found that for me raising the ride height slightly at bashley made my car less twitchy but if going to a flatter track this is reduced. the recomended gearing for the novak 13 ss pro is 4.5 - 5 but sweet spot is around 4.8.

Thanks Ian I hear your racing on Weds and Sun for RRC it'll be good to see you!
It came off at 71C after five minutes of pushing at 4.99FDR
Not sure i'd like to go lower than that in case it cooks...
With the Sphere and thermal cut out - is that a value the user sets or a pre-determined temperature for the motor?
Matt

i believe that they are pre-determined as i haven't seen a adjustment in the speedo settings.
