I still think the "mini" class should remain as M series only. The "super mini" class should be open to anything else.
Having talked about Lipos etc last night it would seem that everyone is of the opinion there is no performance advantage so I can see no reason not to allow them.
I think Mark is pretty much right in that the majority of the hop ups for the M series cars have very little effect performance wise.

As far as I am aware the rear toe hubs come as standard in the kit on everything except the very basic M03 mini. Certainly all the M03M series and M04 etc including the M03R all come with toe in rear hubs in the kit. The price of rear toe in hubs is nowhere near £25 as far as I am aware. The UJ's will certainly make the car smoother but not necessarily faster, at least not so anyone would actually notice.
Certainly oil filled shocks and different springs will make a difference though. Oh and fitting a fan is a huge performance booster ;D

There's really no doubting that the M03 class is good value racing, even with some hop ups (or by buying an M03R). It's all up racing for £100-200, with minimal ongoing cost.
If Mark T can turn up with a nearly standard M03 (startlingly standard!) and be half a second a lap quicker than me, and make me pull my hair out, using 4 year old batteries he's not even touched for a year, then who needs to spend money to go fast?
For me, it's the perfect class, sure, let's add Lipo, it wont make much difference, as always, you still need to drive it the quickest, as I failed to demonstrate last night, damned ropes...

Ok the consensus of opinion is that advertised performance enhancing hop ups should be really called hop equals ???hmmmm...it is a fun class regardless....."too bling or not too bling"..enough said

It's the same as anything. Driving ability is more important than hop ups (or hop equals).

That's why I haven't hopped my mini up.
As for the AGM any date in mind? Do the committee want us to submit proposals or do they have an agenda for discussion already?
Can someone bring a lot of food as it's looking like being a loooong night.

Of course they do. Wonder how they feel about us lot keep buying the latest chassis as soon as they come out or wanting newer and different minis. Just because we can does not make that right either and in my humble opinion does not give a good impression to new drivers who may start thinking they also need to buy the latest kit every 5 minutes. We should be leading by example but then we can afford to do it the way we do and that for some of us is part of the fun. Should we all be tied to a particular chassis without hop ups in all kinds of racing. Would that give a better impression to new comers. Well maybe it would but I bet a lot of us would not be happy to do that. If we are determined to make it easy for a newbie to be competitive and keep the price down then I suggest we have a starter class in it's own right. However we have talked about this before and no one was interested. I do not know what the answer is but I do know that banning or restricting hop ups is not the way to do it. In my own personal opinion of course.

std mini vs hop up mini doesnt really matter experience and driving skills count, you probably couldnt fit much more to my mini . they were purchased not because i thought hop ups = speed as suggested but because i like them and because my driving experience isnt up there with the elite it just means its more expensive when i crash which is quite often .but i still leave with a smolie on my face and thats what its about.....

I like my hop-ups but I just wish Tamiya would bring one out for my MK1 Brain that could correctly control my fingers with regard to what my eyes are seeing (sure marshalls would agree).

As long as new drivers/members like your selfs are happy thats all that counts...thats what the committee needs to hear, not moans via jungle drums.."thats what I was hearing"

Are we doing the right thing with the championships? I was just looking at the tables and I came 3rd with only 4 rounds competed in.
Has anyone got a better idea than 8 from 12 which seems a massive commitment and very few people seem to have completed more than 5 rounds. I know we can't all be there every week but is there a better way of organising the championships.
Should we be doing smaller series, 5 from 8? Or a completely different format entirely. Thoughts anyone.
By the way any idea of a date for the AGM?

I seem to remember going down this route last year and the opinion of some/most was they wanted to keep it the same as it is.
There was also the trophy discussion. Can we afford trophies if we have smaller series. Again the answer was no from what I can remember.
I do agree thought that is a bit silly to be able to finish high up when only a few rounds have been completed. Is this though because we are trying to run too many classes and people keep switching which again dilutes the results?
I know that outdoors I have done rounds in pretty much every class we run at some point over the season.
Maybe a simpler system of classes coupled with shorter series and smaller trophies for the end of each series but major trophies for end of season class leaders? Not sure how this could be worked but may tie people in to the same class for longer.
Be interesting to discuss this further.

Thoughts anyone. By the way any idea of a date for the AGM? Is the summer championship Sundays or Wednesdays Mark? It says 6 from 8 not 8 from 12. If it's Sundays I can't believe Craig and Ross only did one round. Ross did 8 of the Brass Monkeys and Craig 7 and we missed the 1st 2 rounds because Lipos were not allowed without cut-outs, which were not available at the time. Strikes me if we reduce the rounds we will need to publish the dates - my understanding is, and this could be wrong cos it has never been written down methinks, that every weekend is a competiton race apart from SLCC away days. Personally I am happy with 8/12 rounds in the winter, wity weather conditions and being able to miss 4 if you want, it gives a good amount of flexibility. As for Summer, well if the table is for Sundays then I can only assume there were a lot of races on SLCC days otherwise I cannot fathom how come Team Campbell only competed in one round. We would have missed one for the Junior GP at Bedworth but I cannot explain any of the others especially as we did not go on holiday this year

Mark is refering to the summer competition completed 19Oct. Looking back at the tables the computer only shows them both only doing round 3.
The races dates are published and kept updated on the website calender

Just checked our race calendar. From 8th June to Aug 24th inclusive there was a championship race every weekend (SLCC/RRC/STCC/Juniors) apart from a planned week off between the Juiors and the RRC round. Add in a bit of bad weather I guess 1 round is reasonable Summer series started in June or late May methinks and 24th May was RRC

Personally, (both as a racer and a race director), I'd welcome shorter championships, 5 from 8, say, and 'pad them out' with fun meetings.
The more people that get to actually compete in the points tables, the more interest is generated in what's going on with the champs.
At the moment there's just not enough people managing enough rounds - lots of other races going on in the summer, and lots of weather going on in the winter.

Thanks Martin, never seen the calendar before ;D. It confirms what I said ie summer champ did not start until June earliest

Proposal Reduce brass monkeys to 6 from 8 scheduled every other weekend but use the intervening weekends to catch up on any scheduled rounds cancelled due to weather. This should take Nov-March. Which importantly allows summer series to start earlier. April to October is 26 weekends minus 6 for RRC and 6 SLCC. Loose a couple in August for holiday break that gives you 12 rounds. 8 from 12 allows some STCC entries for those that want to. No reason why club champ weekends cannot be scheduled over the SLCC weekends but an awful lot of people are attending SLCC these days whcich means likely that an awful lot of people will not get 8 rounds in which brings us back to the original point ;D Simnb, I thought clubchamp weeknds were fun

im not sure how making any of the series shorter is going to attend to marks comment that he only completed 4 rounds and came third, surely a shorter series does mean anyone else completed more than four rounds! for the summer series only five people attended 6 meetings of the eight across both classes out of 34 people who attended at least on, worth a discussion thou.

The thinking behind a shorter series was to allow people to complete a series, win a trophy and get a bit excited about the next series. Personally I find it hard now to commit to 8 rounds especially over the summer and if that's putting people off maybe committing to 5 would be easier. If I know i've missed 5 meetings (i.e. can't win a trophy or get a reasonable placing in the championship) I won't be too bothered about the remaining rounds. Maybe more people feel the same.
We all want something to aim for with this crazy hobby be it improving PB or winning that priceless trophy. Maybe we'd attract more continued support if there was a smaller prize offered more often.
Further to Pete's point, I thought everyone knew the format for racing i.e championship every weekend except RRC and SLCC but what he says must also ring true for other members, probably the newer ones but maybe the old hands need a reminder as well. Can the committee make it a bit clearer for everyone (especially on raceday) how the championship works, how many rounds, how points are awarded etc etc. I think it's apparent we shouldn't assume that everyone knows what's happening just because it's been that way for so many years.

Just to confirm this one. As a new member in January 2007 it was not until September 2007 that I found out there was a competition (the summer series) in addition to the RRC

No, not as yet Col, although i thought Derek would have told you that, As soon as the Agenda is available, it along with venue and time will be posted on the forum, Posters will go up at both tracks, and at Reality Racing to ensure that we maximise the opportunity of contacting members. If possible between myself and Keith, and also Pete we will attempt to send out a mail shot! As ever it's a busy time of year for all of us so please bear with us we're trying our best! Matt
