No idea Reuben. Normal gearing and it was colder than it was in July and August. Last two laps before it stopped were reasaonable lap times and indeed both the same time so no indication of overheating and slowing. It just stopped. Swapped the sensor lead to no avail. Pit check on connections etc looked fine. Lights coming on on the ESC Still it gave us the opportunity to post a 17.5 time with the 008

Thanks Les. No I guess not deff blown. I haven't had a chance to investigate yet. I will give it a good check over. It is a Tekin but I guess the same principle applies.

In the third final on Sunday for the hell of it I whipped off 80 or 90gms in weights. I asked Craig this evening if he noticed any difference; he said not really. Now whether he means a bit but I drove around it, or I’m watching the Simpsons go away, I have no idea. I did point out though that as he accelerated away from the grid and turned right (the side with missing weights) into the first bend , he carried straight on into the next field. ;D Les in the second final he was on 1500gm. On several occasions you latched on to the rear of Craig and looked faster in the infield but you didn’t take him on the straight although on one occasion you pulled a couple of car lengths and pulled alongside, but wisely backed off going into the first bend. Were you playing? Just trying to understand the effect or not of less weight on top speed.

I was just ghosting Craig "having some play racing" and enjoying it too "like the old days" ...to be honest I could have pulled away on all parts of the track, the car is soooo much more responsive at 1350. As for top speed with the lower weight ,I was using my old Nosram 17.5 with a very safe gearing (45 C) but it was faster even so with I suspect more to come,The lighter weight did allow the car to accelerate onto the strait quicker allowing for a better top end.During the quallies I was Testing a new motor (Same as Jasons 17.5 with roughly the same gearing) at 1350 my car was some what faster on the strait compared to his car at 1500. Ps you have a PM regarding Motors

Ps Pete Personally at out little track I think 17.5 will reap the best benefit from the weight drop....In Pro stock I very much doubt even a very good club level driver will notice much difference, its hard enough to put the power down anyway at 1500 let alone at 1350 in our club winter/ low grip days with a 10.5 ;D..so I suspect thats why Craig didn't notice much difference after removing 90 gr ? So far on our tracks indoors and out at 1350 I would recommend dropping the spring rating at least one. With the weight drop there also might be some benefit with wear rate to the car and rubber?? I hope!.....It would be so so nice for the clubman to get more fast runs out of one set of tyres ....one set per stock class SLCC meet, theres a nice thought.

Ok got the 009 down to a balanced 1340. In the process discovered that the Nosram 5300 40Cs are lighter than the Demon 5000 35Cs.
But without fan, which staying balanced will presumably add another 80gms.
So which of you 1350ers are running with fans+ heatsinks then?
How much weight do Titanium screws save?

Hello Chaps. I have just weighed the Photon and it is at 1357gms as standard,
Must have some heavy servo and motor and the shell is 10gms on its own. Still I am happy at that for now.(like I would even notice)
It seems balanced ok so shouldn't need to add anything. Will get someone to check on wed though.

I Titanium screwed my Mi4. Saved only about 10-12grams And Heat-sinks / fans are a thing of 2009, I dont think you will be seeing them anymore... all though if you do want another Pete, I will have one for sale anytime u want it, cos i wont want to use it again.

Pete, No fan on motor or speedo, temps have been fine on both. Actually been finding I'm gearing more to feel than temp now. Even with everything maxed out on speedo and motor (timing, punch etc), Motor has yet to come off over 60, and speedo usually around 45...

Out of interest guys why are fans a thing of 2009? Is it becuase the designers built their engines to move 1500gms and now there isl ess strain being placed on the engine?? Thanks for the offer Reuben but I have 3 for sale

thats correct Pete. Less weight = less load on the motors, so shouldn't get as hot...

My Duo 2 got to 70 degrees in the last final and that was also catching up - racing. But d**n it was quick. not many were faster in a straight line and out of the corners (just a shame i couldnt do the motor any more justice).
TBH the lighter weight means im gearing it the same but adding more timing (so increasing heat again) as the car weighs less (so less torque is needed?) so change this to more rpm. could be wrong, but it seems to be working.

No Darren I run my cars aprox 10grs over anyway to allow for some dodgy scales at various meets....but if a car has large loops of heavy wires above the CG its allways worth getting rid of.

Thought so mate but was worried If I cut them back it may bring the car under and then have to add weight. To be honest I prob wouldn't no the diffrence anyway as I have never driven the photon at anything else.
Spent the weekend getting my head around springs and the effects on the handling. Think I will leave that for another day though.

Dont worry too much about set up finites at the moment, you have a stable car to learn to drive with, get consistant with you lap times and driving lines with what you have at the moment then change small items and note the difference in handling, this is the best way to learn!....reading info about set up when you are a new driver can and will confuse the brain ;D....its bad enough for more experianced drivers
